Mojo Vision Named to 2020 CB Insights Digital Health 150 for Most Innovative Digital Health Startups

Company recognized in Disease Management and Therapeutics category for efforts to aid visually impaired with Mojo Lens, the world's first true smart contact lens

Aug 13, 2020

SARATOGA, Calif. – Aug. 13, 2020 – CB Insights today named Mojo Vision to its second annual Digital Health 150 ranking, which showcases the 150 most promising private digital health companies in the world. Mojo was recognized as one of CB Insights’ 15 elite startups listed in the category of Disease Management and Therapeutics. Mojo Vision is designing and developing the first true smart contact lens, Mojo Lens.

The 2020 Digital Health 150 cohort highlights startups that are reimagining the lines of the traditional healthcare experience across 12 categories, from Virtual Care Delivery and Clinical Trials to Drug Discovery and Specialty Care. Countries represented this year include Canada, China, Israel, France, the United Kingdom and the United States, among others.

“We’re honored to be recognized by CB Insights for our efforts to help the visually impaired,” said Mojo Vision CEO and Co-founder Drew Perkins. “For those living with vision impairment caused by diseases like macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa, current options to improve vision and mobility typically include invasive surgery or conspicuous headsets. Mojo Lens provides a different approach and is designed to give the visually impaired more confidence and independence through enhanced functional vision and improved mobility and awareness.”

The CB Insights research team selected the Digital Health 150 from hundreds of applications based on several factors including patent activity, investor quality, news sentiment analysis, proprietary Mosaic scores, market potential, partnerships, competitive landscape, team strength and tech novelty. The Mosaic Score, based on CB Insights’ algorithm, measures the overall health and growth potential of private companies to help predict a company’s momentum.

In January, Mojo announced that it’s in the process of building the world’s first true smart contact lens, called Mojo Lens. Mojo Lens is a contact lens with a built-in display that is designed to give people useful and timely information without forcing them to look down at a screen or lose focus on the people and the world around them.

The company is planning an early application of Mojo Lens to help people who live with vision impairment. By using enhanced image overlays, this application is designed to serve as a visual aid, providing real-time contrast and scene enhancement that will make navigation, obstacle avoidance and personal interactions easier. Mojo is actively working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through its Breakthrough Device Program, a voluntary program designed to provide safe and timely access to medical devices that can help treat irreversibly debilitating diseases or conditions.

Mojo Lens is currently in the research and development phase and is not available for sale anywhere in the world.

“This year’s Digital Health 150 is our most global ever, covering the best private healthcare companies from 17 countries. Beyond geographic diversity, these companies are innovating across the entire healthcare value chain, spanning technologies that benefit pharma and biotech companies, to payers, hospitals, insurers and more,” said CB Insights CEO Anand Sanwal. “Last year’s Digital Health 150 winners saw numerous exits and went on to raise nearly $5 billion in investor financing after being recognized. We look forward to seeing the success of this year's class of the best in digital health."
