Staff Software Engineer - Mojo Studio
Cupertino, CA / Systems Engineering / Full-Time
Mojo Vision is pioneering a highly flexible, wafers-in, wafers-out micro-LED platform to unlock AI applications in multiple market segments. Built over the past decade by our world-class engineers, our system-level approach combines advanced 300mm silicon architecture with GaN-on-Silicon emitters, proprietary quantum dots, photodetectors, micro-lens arrays, and packaging to solve conventional trade-offs in size, brightness, bandwidth density, and power. Our scalable, manufacturing-ready approach enables breakthrough products such as next-generation optical interconnects and AI glasses.
At Mojo, our team includes talented professionals with expertise in hardware, software, optics, photonics, electronics, chemistry, and applied physics. We are based in Cupertino, California and are backed by some of the world’s leading technology investors.
Roles and Responsibilities
Mojo Vision is building Mojo Studio, an AI-accelerated engineering platform for designing micro-LED optical interconnects. We have used it extensively as a co-design engineering environment and are now scaling and improving the platform to support broader, more complex engineering workflows across teams and domains.
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead and scale the evolution of this platform. You will work at the intersection of AI systems, computational engineering, simulation, geometry, and software infrastructure, enabling engineers and AI agents to collaboratively design, analyze, validate, and optimize complex systems.
This role is ideal for engineers who have built platforms, scientific computing systems, CAD/EDA tools, simulation software, or AI-enabled developer products and want to define the future of engineering workflows.
Platform Architecture
- Define and execute the technical architecture and roadmap for Mojo Studio.
- Transform project-specific code into reusable platform capabilities.
- Build scalable APIs, services, schemas, and workflow orchestration systems.
AI-Powered Engineering Workflows
- Develop agent-based workflows for connecting layout, electrical behavior, optical performance, and thermal response.
- Build structured tools for geometry operations, constraint checking, and engineering analysis. Ensure AI-assisted workflows remain grounded in real design state, engineering knowledge, and deterministic validation.
- Unify electrical, optical, thermal, statistical, GDS/EDA, and CAD workflows.
Required Skills
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including significant experience with computational engineering, scientific software, EDA, CAD, or multiphysics simulation platforms.
- Expert-level Python and software architecture expertise.
- Proven track record of turning prototypes or one-off scripts into reusable platforms or internal products.
- Strong API, schema, and data-model design skills.
- Experience building AI-assisted tools using agents, structured tool calling, retrieval, or evaluation loops.
- Experience in photonics, semiconductors, EDA, CAD, or computational engineering is valuable, but we welcome candidates from adjacent technical domains who have built complex engineering or scientific software platforms.
Preferred Skills
- Experience using KLayout, Virtuoso, CAD/STEP, or similar design tools.
- Constraint-driven design automation and optimization.
- Electrical, optical, thermal, statistical simulation, or large-scale parameter sweeps.
- Engineering copilots, agent frameworks, or artifact tracking systems.
Salary Range: $141,000 - $161,000 - $211,000
